The Boston Bruins kept their Stanley Cup hopes alive on Monday, punishing Vancouver 5-2 to force a decisive Game 7 in the NHL’s championship series.
The Bruins denied the Canucks a Cup-clinching victory, chasing Vancouver’s erratic goalie Roberto Luongo in the first period.
Brad Marchand, Milan Lucic and Andrew Ference scored in the first 8 minutes, 35 seconds and the Bruins seized control with four goals in the first period.

For the sixth time in the past 10 seasons, the final series is going to a seventh game, returning to Vancouver for the decider today.
The home team has not lost in this series, with the Canucks winning three one-goal games in Vancouver and Boston posting three dominant victories on home ice.
Henrik Sedin scored his first point of the finals with a late power-play goal for the Canucks. Maxim Lapierre also scored in the third period for Vancouver, who are trying to win the Stanley Cup for the first time.

Tim Thomas made 36 saves for Boston, who are seeking their first title since 1972. Thomas has given up just eight goals in six games in the series.
However, it was Canucks goalie Luongo who was in the spotlight. He led Vancouver to the brink of the title with a standout performance in a 1-0 Canucks triumph on Friday.
However, back in Boston he again proved all too vulnerable.

Vancouver’s night started badly when second-line forward Mason Raymond was hurt on the opening shift when he was run backwards into the boards in a clash with Boston’s Johnny Boychuk.
Raymond was taken to hospital for evaluation, although the Canucks offered no immediate information on the nature or gravity of his injury.
Luongo was in trouble early when Marchand blasted a shot over his shoulder after just five-and-a-half minutes. Lucic scored 35 seconds later when his shot dribbled in and Ference ended Luongo’s night with a power-play goal 2 minutes, 29 seconds later.
Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said there was no doubt Luongo would start Game 7.
No sooner had Luongo departed, replaced by Cory Schneider, than Boston’s Michael Ryder scored to complete the Bruins’ burst of four goals in a span of 4 minutes, 14 seconds.
Leading playoffs scorer -David Krejci added a fifth goal for Boston, scoring during a two-man advantage.
Since their 1972 Stanley Cup triumph, Boston have lost in five trips to the finals, never reaching a seventh game.
The Bruins have already played two game-sevens in this post-season, against Montreal in the first round and Tampa Bay in the Eastern Conference finals.
However, both of those games were at home, while this time they’ll have to get it done on the road against a Canucks team that earned home-ice advantage with the best regular-season in club history.
US track and field athletes have about four dozen pieces to choose from when assembling their uniforms at the Olympics. The one grabbing the most attention is a high-cut leotard that barely covers the bikini line and has triggered debate between those who think it is sexist and others who say they do not need the Internet to make sure they have good uniforms. Among those critical or laughing at the uniforms included Paralympian Femita Ayanbeku, sprinter Britton Wilson and even athletes from other countries such as Britain’s Abigail Irozuru, who wrote on social media: “Was ANY female athlete consulted in
Four-time NBA all-star DeMarcus Cousins arrived in Taiwan with his family early yesterday to finish his renewed contract with the Taiwan Beer Leopards in the T1 League. Cousins initially played a four-game contract with the Leopards in January. On March 18, the Taoyuan-based team announced that Cousins had renewed his contract. “Hi what’s up Leopard fans, I’m back. I’m excited to be back and can’t wait to join the team,” Cousins said in a video posted on the Leopard’s Facebook page. “Most of all, can’t wait to see you guys, the fans, next weekend. So make sure you come out and support the Beer
Former US Masters champion Zach Johnson was left embarrassed after a foul-mouthed response to ironic cheers from spectators after a triple bogey at Augusta National on Friday. Johnson, the 2007 Masters winner, missed the cut after his three-over-par round of 75 left him on seven-over 151 for 36 holes, his six on the par-three 12th playing a big role in his downfall. Television footage showed Johnson reacting to sarcastic cheers and applause when he tapped in for the triple bogey by yelling: “Oh fuck off.” Such a response would be considered bad form in any golf tournament, but is particularly out of keeping
The sacred flame for the Paris Olympics was lit yesterday in Olympia, Greece, the birthplace of the ancient Games, in a ceremony inspired by antiquity and marked by messages of hope amid multiple global crises. “In ancient times, the Olympic Games brought together the Greek city states, even — and in particular — during times of war and conflict,” International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach said. “Today, the Olympic Games are the only event that brings the entire world together in peaceful competition. Then as now, the Olympic athletes are sending this powerful message — yes, it is possible to compete fiercely
