LeBron James scored 24 of his 35 points in the second half on Tuesday as Miami’s star trio poured in a total of 80 points in a 102-91 victory over Boston in their NBA Eastern Conference semi-final series.
Dwyane Wade added 28 points and Chris Bosh chipped in 17 with 11 rebounds as the Heat stretched their lead in the best-of-seven series to 2-0.
A 14-0 scoring run saw Miami turn back a determined Celtics team who had tied the contest at 80-80 with little more than seven minutes remaining when Paul Pierce sank two free throws.

Boston missed their next six shots and the Heat pulled away.
“That’s our staple. We know the only way for us to win games, especially in the playoffs, is to play defense,” James said. “Everyone has each other’s back. If one guy gets beat, another steps up.”
“They made a run, a heck of a run ... but we just kept grinding, kept playing our principles, and we finally wore them down,” James added.

Rajon Rondo scored 20 points and added 12 assists for the Celtics, who host game 3 on Saturday.
Kevin Garnett scored 16 points and Pierce added 13 for the Celtics, who have rallied from a 0-2 hole in a best-of-seven series only once before.
Ray Allen scored only seven points and departed with a bruised chest after he was elbowed by James in the third period.

“Being down 2-0 doesn’t scare any of us, doesn’t make us nervous,” Allen said. “It’s just an opportunity to come out shining.”
However, for the current Celtics squad, a 0-2 deficit is uncharted territory, although they showed they could challenge the star-studded Heat with a 13-6 fourth-quarter scoring run that tied the game at 80-80.
Miami responded with their own surge, including a three-point play by James, who was fouled on a dunk and made his free throw to put the Heat ahead 88-80 with less than six minutes remaining.
The Heat, who lost to Boston in last season’s first round and lost three of four games to the Celtics in the regular season, are now two victories away from reaching the Eastern Conference finals.
James said the series was far from over.
“This is a great team we are going against right now,” he said. “We’re just trying to give ourselves a good chance to win, just try to keep on attacking them, playing as hard as we can defensively, just trying to wear them down throughout the game, but it’s a great team.”
“Now the mental discipline begins,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “This thing is just getting started.”
THUNDER VS GRIZZLIES
AFP, OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA
Kevin Durant scored 26 points and Oklahoma City’s reserves provided plenty of scoring support on Tuesday as the Thunder beat Memphis 111-102 to level their NBA Western Conference second-round series.
Russell Westbrook added 24 points and his backup, Eric Maynor, chipped in 15 as the Thunder knotted the series at one game apiece.
James Harden scored 21 points off the bench for the Thunder, who were surprised at home by the Grizzlies in Game 1 and now face the next two games in Memphis, starting with Game 3 on Saturday.
Maynor’s three three-pointers and seven points from Harden helped the Thunder take control early in the fourth quarter.
“I expect James Harden especially and Eric Maynor to have at least one big game in the series,” Grizzlies forward Sam Young said. “They are great players and they are in this position for a reason.”
“We expect big things out of them and that’s why we have to prepare a little better and come out next game with more intensity,” Young added.
When the two left the game and Durant and Westbrook returned with less than five minutes to play, they received a standing ovation.
The Thunder reserves out-scored those of Memphis 48-29.
“That’s what they’ve done all year and that’s why we are in this position, because they’ve done either a good job of catching up or extending leads,” Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. “I thought they were outstanding tonight.”
Memphis tried to rally as Mike Conley, who scored 24 points, hit two three-pointers and converted a three-point play.
Tony Allen made two free throws to get the Grizzlies within 104-98 with less than a minute remaining, but they could get no closer.
Memphis’ Zach Randolph, who notched a playoff career-high 34 points in Game 1, made just two of his 13 shots and scored 15 points.
His frontcourt mate Marc Gasol of Spain was three for 19 with 13 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds.
Back home on Saturday, the Grizzlies will continue their bid to become the first eighth-seeded team to reach the Western Conference finals.
“It’s going to be a physical series and it’s going to be long. We didn’t think it would be easy,” Gasol said. “We go home with a split and that’s better than 0-2.”
Four-time NBA all-star DeMarcus Cousins arrived in Taiwan with his family early yesterday to finish his renewed contract with the Taiwan Beer Leopards in the T1 League. Cousins initially played a four-game contract with the Leopards in January. On March 18, the Taoyuan-based team announced that Cousins had renewed his contract. “Hi what’s up Leopard fans, I’m back. I’m excited to be back and can’t wait to join the team,” Cousins said in a video posted on the Leopard’s Facebook page. “Most of all, can’t wait to see you guys, the fans, next weekend. So make sure you come out and support the Beer
Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei on Saturday won silver in the men’s under-60kg category at the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong. Nicknamed the “judo heartthrob” in Taiwan, the Olympic silver-medalist missed out on his first Asian Championships gold when he lost to Japanese judoka Taiki Nakamura in the finals. Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). He
Rafael Nadal on Wednesday said the upcoming French Open would be the moment to “give everything and die” on the court after his comeback from injury in Barcelona was curtailed by Alex de Minaur. The 22-time Grand Slam title winner, back playing this week after three months on the sidelines, battled well, but eventually crumbled 7-5, 6-1 against the world No. 11 from Australia in the second round. Nadal, 37, who missed virtually all of last season, is hoping to compete at the French Open next month where he is the record 14-time champion. The Spaniard said the clash with De Minaur was
