The Montreal Canadiens won their first game in four by edging the Boston Bruins 4-3 on Thursday.
Max Pacioretty had a goal and an assist, while Scott Gomez also had two points for Montreal. Michael Cammalleri scored on a penalty shot 1 minute, 4 seconds in, while Maxim Lapierre and Brian Gionta also scored for the Canadiens, who remained alone in first place in the Northeast Division with 40 points.
Boston’s Marc Savard and Patrice Bergeron each had a goal and an assist. Blake Wheeler also scored.

In New York, rookie Derek Stepan scored the tying goal late in regulation and Erik Christensen netted the only goal in the shootout as New York rallied for victory over Phoenix.
Martin Biron turned aside three attempts in the shootout to make Christensen’s first-round tally stand up.
Dan Girardi had a goal and assist, while Brandon Prust scored a short-handed goal for New York.
Taylor Pyatt and Adrian Aucoin scored in the opening six minutes, while Martin Hanzal added a goal in the second period for the Coyotes.

In Dallas, Logan Couture’s power-play goal 1 minute, 20 seconds into overtime gave San Jose a victory over Dallas.
The rookie scored his 15th of the season on a shot from the high slot that got past screened goalie Kari Lehtonen.
Devin Setoguchi, back after missing nine games with an upper-body injury, scored twice for the Sharks. Torrey Mitchell also had a goal.
Brenden Morrow and Loui Eriksson scored power-play goals, while Tom Wandell scored at even strength for the Stars.

In Atlanta, Georgia, Cam Ward stopped 45 shots as Carolina earned their second straight comeback win, beating Atlanta after a shootout.
One night after Ward was pulled after giving up three early goals before Carolina’s comeback win at Florida, the Hurricanes again played from behind after trailing 2-0 after two periods. This time, Ward remained in the net for the win as Brandon Sutter and Eric Staal scored third-period goals.
Sergei Samsonov got the decisive shot in the third round of a shootout.
Evander Kane and Anthony Stewart each had a goal and an assist in the second period for the Thrashers.

In St Louis, Missouri, the hosts won their fourth straight against Los Angeles.
Alex Steen scored the tiebreaking goal with 2 minutes, 53 seconds left. Steen scored for the fourth time in five games before David Backes sealed it with a power-play goal into an empty net with 59 seconds to go.
The Blues rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take a 4-2 lead through goals by Vladimir Sobotka, Brad Winchester and Eric Brewer in the second period.
