The Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 on Monday for their fourth win in five games.
Mathieu Garon, whose shutout bid ended with 5 minutes, 1 second remaining, made 28 saves for the Blue Jackets (5-3-0), who recorded just their second home win of the season.
“We wanted to back up the good game we played in Chicago with another one,” Blue Jackets coach Scott Arniel told reporters in reference to their victory over the Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks on Saturday. “It’s a big step for this young team.”

Kyle Wilson opened the scoring in the first period with his first career NHL goal while Derick Brassard doubled the lead on a second-period power play.
The Flyers (3-4-1) made a strong push in the third period, where they outshot the Blue Jackets 12-4 and were rewarded when Ville Leino made a tip-in with just more than five minutes remaining.
Brian Boucher, who made 23 saves, was pulled for an extra attacker with 95 seconds lef,t but the Flyers could not tie the game and fell to their fourth loss in five games.
“It’s completely frustrating,” Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said. “We got exactly what we deserved tonight.”
CANADIENS 3, COYOTES 2 OT
In Montreal, Andrei Kostitsyn scored 1 minute, 25 seconds into overtime to give the Montreal Canadiens a 3-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes.
Kostitsyn put a rebound past Ilya Bryzgalov for his third goal in two games as Montreal improved to 5-2-1. Linemates Tomas Plekanec and Michael Cammalleri also scored in regulation.
Carey Price, who has started each of the Canadiens’ games, made 27 saves for his second straight win, including his first shutout in nearly two years on Saturday in a 3-0 win in Ottawa.
Kyle Turris and Derek Morris scored for Phoenix, which opened a three-game road trip.
Phoenix has never won at the Bell Center and has not won in Montreal since moving to Arizona for the 1996-97 season.
KINGS 3, WILD 2 SO
In St Paul, Minnesota, Michal Handzus scored in the fifth round of a shootout as Los Angeles edged Minnesota.
Anze Kopitar and Jarrett Stoll also scored in the shootout and Kings goalie Jonathan Quick stopped Antti Miettinen shot in the fifth round to secure the victory.
Kopitar had a goal and assist in regulation as Los Angeles won for the fifth time in six games. Stoll added a power-play goal and Quick stopped 20 shots.
John Madden and Nick Schultz scored for the Wild. Niklas Backstrom made 32 saves for Minnesota.
