INTERLEAGUE
The Colorado Rockies cooled off red-hot Boston with a 2-1 victory that snapped the Red Sox’s six-game winning streak on Tuesday.
Jhoulys Chacin pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings before reliever Joe Beimel came on with two outs and the bases loaded in the seventh to retire slugger David Ortiz.
Mike Cameron rallied the Red Sox in the ninth with an RBI single off of Matt Belisle, who held firm and got the final two outs to hand Boston (43-29) their first loss in over a week.
Colorado shortstop Clint Barnes made a spectacular diving play on the final ground ball to end the game and give the Rockies their fourth win in five games.
“That’s our season so far in a nutshell,” Barmes told reporters. “That’s the way it’s been dang near every night. You want to watch an exciting game? Come watch a Rockies game.”
The win for Chacin broke a string of four losses and came despite issuing five walks from 103 pitches. He wiggled out of a bases-loaded jam in the third and allowed just four hits.
Red Sox starter Jon Lester took his first loss since April 18, despite allowing just one run and striking out six batters in six innings.
He surrendered an RBI single to Todd Helton in the fifth inning before the Rockies (37-33) scored again in the eighth when Ryan Spilborghs added an RBI single.
Dustin Pedroia had his 10-game hit streak snapped and finished 0-for-2 in the loss, which left the Red Sox one and a half games behind the American League East-leading New York Yankees.
PHILLIES 2, INDIANS 1
At Philadelphia, Jamie Moyer equaled a record with his 505th homer allowed, the only blemish in eight crisp innings as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Cleveland Indians.
Moyer (8-6) limited the Indians to just two hits while earning win No. 266, tying him with Bob Feller and Eppa Rixey for 35th on the career list. The 47-year-old left-hander recorded 14 of his 24 outs on ground balls.
Russell Branyan went deep for Cleveland in the second, hitting a long drive to the second deck in right to leave Moyer tied with Robin Roberts for most homers allowed all-time.
PADRES 2, RAYS 1
At St Petersburg, Florida, Mat Latos allowed three hits in seven scoreless innings as San Diego beat Tampa Bay.
Latos (8-4) struck out eight — including his last five batters — and walked one in improving to 7-1 over his last nine starts. The right-hander also has won all three of his interleague starts this season
WHITE SOX 9, BRAVES 6
At Chicago, John Danks settled down after a shaky start to outpitch a Tommy Hanson as Chicago beat Atlanta for its seventh straight win.
In snapping Atlanta’s five-game winning streak, the White Sox won for the 11th time in 12 games.
CARDINALS 9, BLUE JAYS 4
At Toronto, Matt Holliday connected for one of four home runs in the Cardinals’ win over Toronto.
Felipe Lopez, Yadier Molina and slumping Colby Rasmus also went deep for the Cardinals to back rookie Jaime Garcia (7-3).
Jose Bautista hit two home runs for Toronto.
RANGERS 6, PIRATES 3
At Arlington, Texas, Josh Hamilton extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a home run and a double as Texas downed Pittsburgh to stretch the majors’ longest winning streak to nine.
Michael Young also homered in his first home game since becoming the franchise’s career hits leader last week at Florida during the Rangers’ eight consecutive victories on the road.
Hamilton doubled in the fifth, when he scored on Borbon’s second homer of the season. An inning later, Hamilton homered onto the grassy hill in center for his 17th of the season and majors-best eighth this month.
MARLINS 10, ORIOLES 4
At Baltimore, Hanley Ramirez had three hits and three RBIs to back an effective pitching performance by Anibal Sanchez as Florida defeated Baltimore.
The Marlins have two won straight for the first time since June 10-June 11.
After sitting out Sunday’s game with a tight right hamstring, Ramirez marked his return with his first three-hit game since May 19.
NATIONALS 4, ROYALS 3
At Washington, Josh Willingham and Adam Dunn homered and Luis Atilano pitched into the sixth inning as Washington beat Kansas City.
Matt Capps held on for his major league-leading 22nd save in 26 chances despite a rocky ninth inning. Scott Podsednik hit a two-run single to get Kansas City within one before Jason Kendall fouled out with two runners on to end the game.

US track and field athletes have about four dozen pieces to choose from when assembling their uniforms at the Olympics. The one grabbing the most attention is a high-cut leotard that barely covers the bikini line and has triggered debate between those who think it is sexist and others who say they do not need the Internet to make sure they have good uniforms. Among those critical or laughing at the uniforms included Paralympian Femita Ayanbeku, sprinter Britton Wilson and even athletes from other countries such as Britain’s Abigail Irozuru, who wrote on social media: “Was ANY female athlete consulted in
Forget Real Madrid, Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain, the world’s best soccer team — statistically speaking — might be a little-known outfit from the closed central Asian nation of Turkmenistan. Founded last year, Arkadag, named in honor of former Turkmen president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, have been unstoppable, notching up 36 consecutive domestic victories in a run still ongoing. The side have not lost a single competitive match and swept to a league and cup double in their inaugural season — success unthinkable almost anywhere else. However, in Turkmenistan, it could hardly have gone any other way. The energy-rich country is one of the most closed
Four-time NBA all-star DeMarcus Cousins arrived in Taiwan with his family early yesterday to finish his renewed contract with the Taiwan Beer Leopards in the T1 League. Cousins initially played a four-game contract with the Leopards in January. On March 18, the Taoyuan-based team announced that Cousins had renewed his contract. “Hi what’s up Leopard fans, I’m back. I’m excited to be back and can’t wait to join the team,” Cousins said in a video posted on the Leopard’s Facebook page. “Most of all, can’t wait to see you guys, the fans, next weekend. Former US Masters champion Zach Johnson was left embarrassed after a foul-mouthed response to ironic cheers from spectators after a triple bogey at Augusta National on Friday. Johnson, the 2007 Masters winner, missed the cut after his three-over-par round of 75 left him on seven-over 151 for 36 holes, his six on the par-three 12th playing a big role in his downfall. Television footage showed Johnson reacting to sarcastic cheers and applause when he tapped in for the triple bogey by yelling: “Oh fuck off.” Such a response would be considered bad form in any golf tournament, but is particularly out of keeping
