Philadelphia pitcher Roy Halladay had another impressive outing as the Phillies’ boom recruit steered the team to a 7-2 win over the St Louis Cardinals in the National League on Thursday.
Halladay (6-1) allowed one earned run in seven innings. He tied a season high with nine strikeouts, and got one more out after allowing a run in the seventh.
Jayson Werth hit a three-run homer and Raul Ibanez also went long as Philadelphia took three of the last four in the series between NL divisional leaders.
St Louis starter Kyle Lohse (0-2) allowed five runs in four innings.
There was a moment of silence before the game for former Phillies pitcher Robin Roberts, who died on Thursday. The Hall of Famer’s No. 36 jersey was hung in the Philadelphia dugout and will remain there the rest of the season.
