The Ottawa Senators matched a season-high four-game winning streak with an impressive 4-1 victory over the high-flying Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday.
Goaltender Brian Elliot kept the Blackhawks at bay with 29 saves in his second straight start, while the Senators (26-21-4) charged to a 2-0 advantage on first-period goals from Zack Smith and Ryan Shannon.
Marian Hossa replied for Chicago with a short-handed strike against his former team at 6:18 in the second, but Peter Regin restored the two-goal cushion for the hosts 12 minutes later.

Mike Fisher added the final goal on a snap-shot with 3:15 remaining.
“We know we can beat the best teams in the league,” Regin told the Ottawa Sun. “The last four games, we’ve really shown that we’re a good hockey team.”
The Blackhawks (34-12-4), who entered the contest tied with the San Jose Sharks on an NHL-leading 72 points, were beaten for the first time in four games.
Chicago was playing the third contest of a lengthy eight-game road trip but fell to defeat despite enjoying a 30-18 shot advantage over the Senators.
Patrick Kane and Brent Seabrook fired five shots apiece though Hossa was the only player to convert, finding the net on a breakaway at the location where he spent his first seven seasons.
However, Ottawa made more of their limited opportunities as they got the better of Blackhawks netminder Cristobal Huet, who saved 14 shots.
Daniel Alfredsson had sparked the Senators as of late, netting four goals and two assists in two previous games since returning from a shoulder injury, but was scoreless this time as Regin led the offense with his score and an assist.
“The guys are playing so well,” Elliot said. “That just shows we can compete with anybody in the league. Not only can we compete, we can get a convincing win.”

Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei on Saturday won silver in the men’s under-60kg category at the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong. Nicknamed the “judo heartthrob” in Taiwan, the Olympic silver-medalist missed out on his first Asian Championships gold when he lost to Japanese judoka Taiki Nakamura in the finals. Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). Rafael Nadal on Wednesday said the upcoming French Open would be the moment to “give everything and die” on the court after his comeback from injury in Barcelona was curtailed by Alex de Minaur. The 22-time Grand Slam title winner, back playing this week after three months on the sidelines, battled well, but eventually crumbled 7-5, 6-1 against the world No. 11 from Australia in the second round. Nadal, 37, who missed virtually all of last season, is hoping to compete at the French Open next month where he is the record 14-time champion. The Spaniard said the clash with De Minaur was
