Manchester City destroyed Scunthorpe 5-1 at Eastlands as Roque Santa Cruz scored his first goal for Mark Hughes’ team.
Stephen Ireland got City’s early opener, but Scunthorpe hit back with a Jonathan Forte equaliser in the 26th minute.
Once Santa Cruz restored City’s lead with a 38th minute header there was only going to be one winner.
Joleon Lescott increased City’s lead in the 56th minute before Carlos Tevez netted after 71 minutes. Michael Johnson, on as a substitute, added City’s fifth in the 77th minute.

Bayern Munich’s Miroslav Klose scored two early goals on Wednesday to help the German giants on their way to a 4-0 demolition of Eintracht Frankfurt and book their place in the German Cup quarter-finals.
After both Stuttgart and Dortmund suffered third-round exits on Tuesday, there was no such problem for fellow Bundesliga sides Bayern, Werder Bremen, Hoffenheim or Schalke 04, who all enjoyed easy wins.

Two-time champions Al Ittihad moved within a match of regaining their AFC Champions League title on Wednesday when they defeated Japan’s Nagoya Grampus 2-1 in the semi-finals.
In the final on Nov. 7 in Tokyo, they will play South Korea’s Pohang Steelers, who beat Qatari minnows Umm-Salal 2-1 in Doha, 4-1 on aggregate.
