Donald landed the conversion and after missing two first half penalties, he landed two in the opening stages of the second spell as the All Blacks raced from 3-13 down to 16-13 ahead in the space of 15 minutes.
However, it was to be a short-lived lead as Giteau landed his third penalty to level the scores with 35 minutes to play.
As the All Blacks shut down the Wallabies in the closing 20 minutes, Donald landed two more penalties to seal the outcome.
