Darvish to release book
All-Star Japanese pitcher, philanthropist and model Yu Darvish can now add author to his ever-growing resume. The 22-year-old Darvish, considered by many to be Japan’s best pitcher, has written an instructional baseball book that reveals his techniques for throwing a variety of pitches including change-ups, curves, sliders and sinkers, the Nikkan Sports newspaper reported yesterday. The book, which will be released next month by Baseball Magazine Co, is the latest venture for the popular pitcher, who is the son of an Iranian father and a Japanese mother. Darvish created a stir in Japan’s baseball world when he posed partly nude in a women’s magazine early in his career. He has also set up several charitable organizations. One assists in the distribution of water to developing countries while another provides support for children in his hometown, Osaka.

Donte Stallworth suspended
Cleveland Browns receiver Donte Stallworth has been suspended indefinitely following his guilty plea to manslaughter while driving under the influence of alcohol, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said on Thursday. Stallworth, 28, was sentenced on Tuesday to 30 days in jail for the car crash that killed a pedestrian in Miami Beach. “The conduct reflected in your guilty plea resulted in the tragic loss of life and was inexcusable,” Goodell wrote in a letter to Stallworth. “While the criminal justice system has determined the legal consequences of this incident, it is my responsibility as NFL Commissioner to determine appropriate league discipline for your actions, which have caused irreparable harm to the victim and his family, your club, your fellow players and the NFL.”
US track and field athletes have about four dozen pieces to choose from when assembling their uniforms at the Olympics. The one grabbing the most attention is a high-cut leotard that barely covers the bikini line and has triggered debate between those who think it is sexist and others who say they do not need the Internet to make sure they have good uniforms. Among those critical or laughing at the uniforms included Paralympian Femita Ayanbeku, sprinter Britton Wilson and even athletes from other countries such as Britain’s Abigail Irozuru, who wrote on social media: “Was ANY female athlete consulted in

Former US Masters champion Zach Johnson was left embarrassed after a foul-mouthed response to ironic cheers from spectators after a triple bogey at Augusta National on Friday. Johnson, the 2007 Masters winner, missed the cut after his three-over-par round of 75 left him on seven-over 151 for 36 holes, his six on the par-three 12th playing a big role in his downfall. Television footage showed Johnson reacting to sarcastic cheers and applause when he tapped in for the triple bogey by yelling: “Oh fuck off.” Such a response would be considered bad form in any golf tournament, but is particularly out of keeping
