Alex Rodriguez had a perfect response for the hearty boos, matching a career high with five hits to lead the New York Yankees to an 11-1 victory over the Texas Rangers in the American League on Monday.
Rodriguez also drove in four runs in his first game in Texas since admitting earlier this year that he used steroids while playing for the Rangers from 2001-2003. Phil Hughes tossed eight shutout innings for New York, which has won 11 of 13.

NATIONAL LEAGUE
AP, MILWAUKEE
Bill Hall hit a two-out, RBI single in the 10th inning to lift the Milwaukee Brewers to a 1-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League on Monday.
Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter took a perfect game into the seventh inning, and the Brewers’ Yovani Gallardo carried a no-hitter into the sixth before each finished allowing just two hits over eight innings.
Milwaukee closer Trevor Hoffman pitched a perfect ninth and Carlos Villanueva (2-3) the 10th for the Brewers, setting up Hall’s dramatics off St. Louis’ Kyle McClellan (2-2).
Casey McGehee reached on an error by third baseman Brian Barden to lead off the 10th. Prince Fielder was intentionally walked one out later and after a fielder’s choice, Hall drove McClellan’s pitch to right-center field and wasted no time touching first base before sprinting back in the dugout and into the clubhouse.
PIRATES 10, CUBS 8
At Chicago, Freddy Sanchez had Pittsburgh’s first six-hit game in 19 years, scored four runs and drove in three as Pittsburgh sent Chicago to its eighth straight loss.
Despite scoring three more runs than they did on the entire winless six-game road trip that ended on Sunday, the Cubs fell to 21-22 and were booed repeatedly by their fans.
Sanchez hit a two-run homer, doubled and singled four times for the second six-hit game in the majors this season.

San Diego, which snapped an 11-game road losing streak, trailed 7-1 entering the eighth inning, but scored five in the eighth, one in the ninth and two in the 10th.
Padres catcher Nick Hundley and manager Bud Black weren’t around to watch the impressive finish, both thrown out by home plate umpire Eric Cooper in the bottom of the sixth.
Henry Blanco, who had replaced Hundley, led off the 10th with his second single, then Headley hit a 1-1 pitch from Tony Pena (4-2) some 130m off a sign above the swimming pool in left-center.

Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei on Saturday won silver in the men’s under-60kg category at the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong. Nicknamed the “judo heartthrob” in Taiwan, the Olympic silver-medalist missed out on his first Asian Championships gold when he lost to Japanese judoka Taiki Nakamura in the finals. Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). Rafael Nadal on Wednesday said the upcoming French Open would be the moment to “give everything and die” on the court after his comeback from injury in Barcelona was curtailed by Alex de Minaur. The 22-time Grand Slam title winner, back playing this week after three months on the sidelines, battled well, but eventually crumbled 7-5, 6-1 against the world No. 11 from Australia in the second round. Nadal, 37, who missed virtually all of last season, is hoping to compete at the French Open next month where he is the record 14-time champion. The Spaniard said the clash with De Minaur was
