Cliff Lee outpitched opposite number Mark Buehrle, throwing seven innings for the Cleveland Indians to beat the Chicago White Sox 4-0 and take two of three games in their American League series on Wednesday.
It was the second series the last-place Indians have won this year and the first since they took two of three from Kansas City at home from April 21 to April 23. Cleveland had not shut out an opponent since Lee did it with a complete game against the White Sox on Sept. 1.
Victor Martinez homered on Buehrle’s seventh pitch of the game and Ryan Garko added a two-run blast in the fourth to give Lee (2-5) his first victory in nearly a month.
Buehrle (5-1) lost for the first time since Sept. 24 last year.YANKEES 8, BLUE JAYS 2
In Toronto, Brett Gardner hit his first major league homer and drove in three runs as Andy Pettitte won for the first time in four starts for New York.
The Yankees finished with 11 hits, including eight for extra bases.
Gardner also tripled and scored twice, while Mark Teixeira finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, raising his average to .202.
Every Yankees starter except right fielder Nick Swisher reached base safely at least once. Besides Swisher, the only Yankees starter not to get a hit was Alex Rodriguez, who went 0-for-2 with three walks.

Los Angeles pitcher Randy Wolf dominated his former team as the Dodgers beat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-2 in the National League on Wednesday.
In a meeting of the league-leading Dodgers and the reigning World Series champions, James Loney homered and drove in four runs for Los Angeles.
Wolf allowed just one run, striking out eight in six sharp innings in his second career start against the Phillies. Wolf spent his first eight years in Philadelphia, leaving after the 2006 season.
The Phillies got another poor outing from 46-year-old Jamie Moyer, who still needs one more win to become the oldest pitcher to 250 career victories.
BREWERS 8, MARLINS 6
In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Rickie Weeks homered for the third straight game to help Milwaukee notch a comeback win over Florida.
The Brewers benefited from an umpires’ video replay reversal.
Marlins pinch-hitter Ross Gload apparently hit a two-run homer down the right-field line that would’ve cut Milwaukee’s lead to 8-7, but umpires reversed the initial call after viewing the video replay, the first reversal at Miller Park since baseball adopted the replay system late last August.

Four-time NBA all-star DeMarcus Cousins arrived in Taiwan with his family early yesterday to finish his renewed contract with the Taiwan Beer Leopards in the T1 League. Cousins initially played a four-game contract with the Leopards in January. On March 18, the Taoyuan-based team announced that Cousins had renewed his contract. “Hi what’s up Leopard fans, I’m back. I’m excited to be back and can’t wait to join the team,” Cousins said in a video posted on the Leopard’s Facebook page. “Most of all, can’t wait to see you guys, the fans, next weekend. Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei on Saturday won silver in the men’s under-60kg category at the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong. Nicknamed the “judo heartthrob” in Taiwan, the Olympic silver-medalist missed out on his first Asian Championships gold when he lost to Japanese judoka Taiki Nakamura in the finals. Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). Rafael Nadal on Wednesday said the upcoming French Open would be the moment to “give everything and die” on the court after his comeback from injury in Barcelona was curtailed by Alex de Minaur. The 22-time Grand Slam title winner, back playing this week after three months on the sidelines, battled well, but eventually crumbled 7-5, 6-1 against the world No. 11 from Australia in the second round. Nadal, 37, who missed virtually all of last season, is hoping to compete at the French Open next month where he is the record 14-time champion. The Spaniard said the clash with De Minaur was
