The Los Angeles Lakers welcomed back starting center Andrew Bynum in a 116-102 triumph over the Denver Nuggets on Thursday.
Bynum, who missed 32 games with a knee injury, scored 16 points and made seven rebounds to support the game-high 33 points from Kobe Bryant as the Lakers won their fifth successive game.
“I have no concerns, no pain. Everything is feeling good right now,” Bynum told reporters after playing 21 minutes. “My timing is really bad, I missed a couple of easy rebounds and gimmies under the basket. The more minutes I get the more comfortable I’ll be and I think everything will work out.”

Carmelo Anthony scored 23 points while J.R. Smith added 19 for the Nuggets (53-27), who had their eight-game winning streak snapped. Denver still hold a one-and-a-half game lead over the Houston Rockets for second place in the Western Conference.
The game was locked at 56-56 at halftime before Bryant and Pau Gasol combined for seven points during a 12-0 run that gave the Lakers an 82-69 advantage with 3:38 remaining in the third quarter.
Gasol finished with 27 points and a game-high 19 rebounds while the Lakers’ bench contributed 32 points.
Los Angeles (63-16) moved within half a game of the Cleveland Cavaliers for the NBA’s best record.
“It’s good to have him back,” Bryant said of Bynum. “Being out for a while some of his shots around the basket were off but that’s going to be there. In the second half he got the catches in the paint and was shooting his jump hook.”
BULLS 113, 76ERS 99
At Chicago, the hosts closed in on a playoff spot by downing Philadelphia.
Ben Gordon and Tyrus Thomas each scored 24 points for the Bulls, who now need only one more win or Charlotte to have one more loss to wrap up a spot in the playoffs.
Chicago also moved half a game ahead of Detroit in the Eastern Conference standings.
The loss was the third straight for Philadelphia, which is already assured of a playoff spot.

Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei on Saturday won silver in the men’s under-60kg category at the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong. Nicknamed the “judo heartthrob” in Taiwan, the Olympic silver-medalist missed out on his first Asian Championships gold when he lost to Japanese judoka Taiki Nakamura in the finals. Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). Rafael Nadal on Wednesday said the upcoming French Open would be the moment to “give everything and die” on the court after his comeback from injury in Barcelona was curtailed by Alex de Minaur. The 22-time Grand Slam title winner, back playing this week after three months on the sidelines, battled well, but eventually crumbled 7-5, 6-1 against the world No. 11 from Australia in the second round. Nadal, 37, who missed virtually all of last season, is hoping to compete at the French Open next month where he is the record 14-time champion. The Spaniard said the clash with De Minaur was
