Ryan O’Byrne put the puck in his own net on a delayed penalty to send the game into overtime as Bill Guerin scored the shootout clincher for the New York Islanders in a 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Monday.
Guerin was credited with the tying goal on O’Byrne’s gaffe.
Richard Park and Trent Hunter also scored for the Islanders.
Steve Begin, Josh Gorges and Maxim Lapierre scored rare goals for the Canadiens, who lost their second consecutive shootout but still have points in four of their last five games.

At Philadelphia, Mike Knuble scored two goals, including the tiebreaker at 14:52 of the third period, as Philadelphia beat Dallas for its fifth straight victory.
Scottie Upshall and Jeff Carter also scored for the Flyers. Gagne extended his points streak to eight games with a pair of assists on Knuble’s goals.
Mike Modano scored twice and Landon Wilson had a goal for the Stars.
RANGERS 4, COYOTES 1
At New York, Brandon Dubinsky scored his first goal in 14 games and Nikolai Zherdev had three assists for New York.
Buoyed by the return of top center Scott Gomez after a five-game absence due to a leg injury, the Rangers shook off an early deficit.
Blair Betts got the Rangers even in the first period, and defenseman Dan Girardi added insurance with a power-play goal in the third. Henrik Lundqvist returned to the net for the first time in five days and made 35 saves.
Gomez sealed it by scoring into an empty net with 27.9 seconds left.
PANTHERS 3, HURRICANES 2
At Sunrise, Florida, Gregory Campbell’s goal snapped a tie late in the second period and sent Florida to a victory over Carolina.
Ville Peltonen and David Booth also scored and Tomas Vokoun made 27 saves for the Panthers, who stopped a two-game skid as they opened a three-game homestand.
Tuomo Ruutu and Chad LaRose scored for the Hurricanes.
WILD 4, CAPITALS 3F
At St. Paul, Minnesota, Cal Clutterbuck’s first two NHL goals gave Minnesota a badly needed offensive boost and sparked the Wild, who hung on against the injury-depleted and travel-weary Washington.
James Sheppard scored 4 minutes later for Minnesota.
Niklas Backstrom made 25 saves for the Wild, but he unraveled over the final 6 minutes and gave up goals to Matt Bradley, Ovechkin and Washington’s Nicklas Backstrom that whittled the lead to one.
DUCKS 4, AVALANCHE 1
At Anaheim, California, Teemu Selanne scored two power-play goals and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 29 saves in Anaheim’s victory over Colorado.
Selanne and Chris Kunitz scored first-period goals and Selanne added an insurance goal in the third to help the Ducks win on home ice for the second time in six games.
Chris Pronger had a goal and an assist for Anaheim.
Colorado forward Ian Laperriere ended Giguere’s bid for a shutout, deflecting in Jon-Michael Liles’ shot 2:13 into the third period.

At Vancouver, Sami Salo scored a power-play goal 2:33 into overtime and Curtis Sanford made 32 saves in his first start since star goalie Roberto Luongo was injured, lifting the streaking Canucks over Detroit.
Daniel Sedin and Taylor Pyatt also scored for the Canucks, who have won four straight games for the first time this season.
