Two goals from Jiri Hudler and 30 saves by Chris Osgood set up the Detroit Red Wings¡¦ 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers in Thursday¡¦s NHL action.
Defending champion Detroit is 6-0-1 in its past seven games, and Thursday¡¦s result maintained its six-point advantage atop the Western Conference¡¦s Central Division.
The Red Wings were 3-for-6 with the man advantage, improving their NHL-leading power-play conversion rate to 34.2 percent.
CANUCKS 3, WILD 2
In St. Paul, Minnesota, Vancouver maintained its strong showing against Northwest Division rivals, winning away at Minnesota.
Daniel Sedin scored the winner midway through third period, and Curtis Sanford made 28 saves for his first win since last year.
The Canucks are 6-0-2 in their past eight games and this win moved it three points ahead of the Wild in their division.
PENGUINS 3, THRASHERS 2
In Atlanta, Pittsburgh got is winner with only 2:40 remaining, beating Atlanta and making it seven wins from eight.
Petr Sykora redirected Sidney Crosby¡¦s slap shot on a power play for the winning goal.
Crosby scored his seventh goal in the second period and was also was credited with a pair of assists, including his 18th on Sykora¡¦s fourth goal of the season.
KINGS 5, CAPITALS 2
In Los Angeles, the home team ended Washington¡¦s form streak with a convincing victory.
Patrick O¡¦Sullivan scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period, and Duston Brown added a power-play goal for the Kings, who outshot Washington 32-2.
The Capitals had won six of seven coming in, taking them top of the Southeast Division, but Alex Ovechkin¡¦s five-game goal streak was ended and they were well beaten.
CANADIENS 3, SENATORS 2, SO
In Ottawa, the home team slumped to its sixth straight loss, beaten in a shootout by Montreal.
Alex Tanguay scored on Montreal¡¦s fourth shootout attempt after Carey Price had blocked three Ottawa shots.
