    Miyabiyama and Dejima maintain lead in Fukuoka

    Mongolian yokozuna Hakuho overpowered Kotoshogiku yesterday to stay within one win of co-leaders Dejima and Miyabiyama at the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament.

    Hakuho, who is bidding for his ninth Emperor¡¦s Cup, forced out third-ranked maegashira Kotoshogiku (3-3) in the day¡¦s final bout to improve to 5-1.

    It was Hakuho¡¦s fifth-straight win after an opening-day loss to Aminishiki.

    Lower-ranked wrestlers Dejima and Miyabiyama stayed in the lead and maintained perfect 6-0 records in the 15-day tournament by winning earlier bouts.

    Fifth-ranked maegashira Dejima defeated No. 7 maegashira Tochinonada while Miyabiyama, a seventh-ranked maegashira, overpowered ninth-ranked Tochiozan.

    In other major bouts, Mongolian sekiwake Ama, who is bidding for promotion to sumo¡¦s second-highest rank of ozeki, forced out fourth-ranked maegashira Tochinoshin (1-5) to improve to 4-2.

    Bulgarian ozeki Kotooshu overpowered third-ranked Hokutoriki (1-5) to post his third win against three losses.
