Mongolian grand champion Hakuho overpowered Hokutoriki on Thursday to stay one win off the lead at the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament.

Hakuho got both arms on the belt of Hokutoriki and hoisted the No. 3 maegashira over the straw ridge in the day¡¦s final bout at Fukuoka Kokusai Center. His fourth straight win after an opening-day loss improved his record to 4-1, while Hokutoriki fell to 1-4.

He remains a win behind lower-ranked wrestlers Dejima and Miyabiyama, who stayed in the lead in the 15-day tourney at 5-0 with wins in earlier bouts.

No. 5 maegashira Dejima defeated No. 10 maegashira Aran of Russia, while Miyabiyama, a seventh-ranked maegashira, overpowered No. 12 Kasuganishiki.

In other major bouts, Bulgarian ozeki Kotooshu also bounced back from a pair of losses when he shoved out Tochinoshin to improve to 2-3. Tochinoshin, a fourth-ranked maegashira from Georgia, fell to 1-4.
