Cam Ward made 57 saves and Chad LaRose scored twice to help the Carolina Hurricanes beat the New York Islanders 4-3 in the NHL on Saturday.
Rod Brind’Amour and Eric Staal also scored for the Hurricanes in their third straight victory at Nassau Coliseum.
Freddy Meyer, Sean Bergenheim and Mark Streit scored for New York. The Islanders have lost three straight overall and three of four home games so far this season.

At Montreal, Corey Perry had a goal and two assists and Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 47 shots in Anaheim’s third straight victory.
Ryan Getzlaf and Chris Kunitz each had a goal and an assist, and Kent Huskins, Travis Moen and Teemu Selanne also added goals for the Ducks.
Alex Tanguay had two goals, and Saku Koivu and Tom Kostopoulos also scored for Montreal. The Canadiens had won five straight.

At Chicago, Pavel Datsyuk and Marian Hossa scored in a shootout to extend Detroit’s winning streak to four games.
Chicago’s Patrick Kane scored on a 5-on-3 power play with 7:27 left in the third period to tie it at 5 and set up overtime.
Jonathan Toews was the lone Chicago player to connect in the shootout.
Datsyuk, Hossa, Niklas Kronwall, Jiri Hudler and Johan Franzen scored for Detroit in regulation. Martin Havlat, Kris Versteeg, Aaron Johnson and Ben Eager also scored in regulation for Chicago in front of a franchise-record, regular-season crowd of 22,690.
RANGERS 3, PENGUINS 2, SO
At New York, Nikolai Zherdev scored with 8.1 seconds left to force overtime and Fredrik Sjostrom had the only goal of the shootout in the Rangers’ victory.
The Penguins had their three-game winning streak snapped despite entering the third period with a 2-0 lead. Marc-Andre Fleury made 42 saves, but couldn’t deny Zherdev and Sjostrom, who helped the Rangers improve to 8-2-1.
FLYERS 3, DEVILS 2, OT
At Philadelphia, Jeff Carter scored in overtime and Martin Biron made 29 saves to help the Flyers beat New Jersey for the second time in two days.
The Flyers’ 6-3 victory on Friday night snapped a 13-game winless streak in New Jersey and was Philadelphia’s first win of the season following six losses.
After play was delayed in overtime when a fan threw a smoke bomb on the ice, Carter deflected Ossi Vaananen’s shot from the blue line past Brodeur.
Mike Knuble and Scott Hartnell added goals for the Flyers. It was Carter’s sixth goal of the season and extended his goals streak to four games.

At St. Louis, Ben Bishop made 12 saves in his first NHL start for St. Louis before leaving with an undisclosed lower-body injury with 15:27 remaining.
He was replaced by Marek Schwarz, recalled earlier in the day from Peoria of the AHL.
Starter Manny Legace missed the game after straining a hip flexor and regular backup Chris Mason was out after having an appendectomy last week.
Brad Boyes scored two goals, while Paul Kariya had a goal and an assist.

At Denver, Ryan Smyth, Milan Hejduk and Wojtek Wolski scored shootout goals for Colorado and goalie Peter Budaj stopped Clarke MacArthur on Buffalo’s last chance.

Budaj made 29 saves for Colorado. The Avalanche have won five straight after losing their first three games.

Four-time NBA all-star DeMarcus Cousins arrived in Taiwan with his family early yesterday to finish his renewed contract with the Taiwan Beer Leopards in the T1 League.
