BUNDES LIGA: Porcello, Freis score as Karlsruhe win in Bielefeld

Massimilian Porcello and Sebastian Freis scored a goal each on Friday to help Karlsruhe beat Arminia Bielefeld 2-1 and move into the upper half of the Bundesliga standings.

Karlsruhe pulled ahead in the 16th minute when Porcello scored and Freis doubled the advantage in the 52nd minute.

Nico Herzig’s header pulled one back for Bielefeld in the 86th minute, but it was not enough to stop Karlsruhe from winning their second straight match.

The win moved Karlsruhe into ninth place with nine points from six matches, one spot ahead of defending champions Bayern Munich.

Bielefeld, who remain on six points from seven matches in 14th place, nearly went ahead in the eighth minute when Maik Franz’s clearing attempt went off the post of his own goal.

Also, Bielefeld’s Christopher Katongo hit the left post from 20m in the 37th minute.
