Two Taiwanese athletes won gold medals in the taekwondo competition on the second day of the Invitational Games for the Deaf in Taipei yesterday.
Lin Bo-tsung captured a gold in the men’s 58kg-68kg class, while Lu Si-rou earned a gold in the women’s 49kg-57kg class.
The silver medal in men’s 58kg-68 kg class went to Turkey’s Sagir Serkan, and the bronze was won by Argentina’s Rodolfo Ramirez.
Turkey’s Yenigun Elif and South Korea’s Won Se-oyn captured the silver and the bronze medals respectively in the women’s 49kg-57kg class.
Another Turkish athlete, Guler Muhammed, won a gold in the men’s under 58kg class.
Silver went to Hong Kong’s Ho Nim Ching and bronze to South Korea’s Lee Hwang-ho.
Three more taekwondo events are scheduled for today — the men’s 68kg-80kg class, the men’s over 80kg class and the women’s 57kg-67 kg class.
In the men’s soccer tournament yesterday Japan beat Iran 2-1 and Uzbekistan and Australia drew 1-1.
It was a good day for Taiwanese players in the men’s singles table tennis competition.
Wen Chih-hsuan and Yang Jung-tsung won all three of their matches, Hsia Jaw-hua won two and lost one (to Yang) and Kuo Yueh-tung one one and lost one.
In the women’s competition Taiwan’s Chen Tzu-hsiu, Chang Shu-ling, Chang Yi-chun and Chen Li-chien all lost to South Korean opponents.
The five-day invitational games, which opened on Saturday, is a warm-up for the next year’s Summer Deaflympics, which will take place in Taipei from Sept. 5 to Sept. 15.
