Yin Jian of China won the women¡¦s RS:X windsurfing event in Qingdao yesterday to give China its first ever Olympic sailing gold while New Zealand¡¦s Tom Ashley won the men¡¦s RS:X event.
Yin, the 29-year-old silver medalist from Athens four years ago, kept her nerve to finish with 39 points from the 11 races and claim a one-point victory over Italy¡¦s Alessandra Sensini. Bryony Shaw of Great Britain took bronze with 45 points.
Spain¡¦s Marina Alabau was fourth and Jessica Crisp of Australia finished fifth.
Ashley also claimed victory by one point after his 11 races, finishing with 52 points compared with 53 for French silver medal winner Julien Bontemps. Israel¡¦s Shahar Zubari took bronze to register his country¡¦s first medal at the Beijing Games.
Nick Dempsey of Great Britain was fouth and Ricardo Santos of Brazil took fifth place.
