Crowley to coach Canada
Former All Black Kieren Crowley has been named as coach of the Canadian national team. "I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to coach the Canadian side," Crowley said in a statement released by the New Zealand Rugby Union yesterday. Crowley, 46, played 19 Tests for the All Blacks as fullback between 1985 and 1991 and went on to coach provincial team Taranaki for nine years from 1998, as well as New Zealand's world championship winning under-19 team last year. Rugby Canada director David Robertson said in a statement that Canada were delighted to get someone of Crowley's stature. Crowley said in the statement that he believed his new team were fast improving. "My impression of them at the moment is that they are a very physical team and they have very good set piece plays," he said.

New South Wales win
Spinner Beau Casson took 4-126 as New South Wales, with seven Test players in their lineup, beat Victoria by 258 runs yesterday to claim the Australian first-class cricket final. Chasing an almost impossible target of 629 runs to win at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Victoria were bowled out before tea on the fifth and final day for 370, including opener Nick Jewell's 99. It was New South Wales' 45th Australian first-class title. Victoria resumed yesterday morning at 96-2 and reached 222-6 at lunch, losing David Hussey (31), Cameron White (57), Andrew McDonald (4) and Jewell. Jewell was trapped leg-before-wicket by Test paceman Stuart Clark on the last ball before lunch, one run shy of his fifth first-class century. New South Wales, who finished on top of the standings, needed only a draw to claim the title.

Borussia Dortmund advance
Brazilian midfielder Tinga helped book Borussia Dortmund's place in next month's German Cup final as both goal-scorer and provider in the 3-0 semi-final win over 10-man Carl Zeiss Jena on Tuesday. The 30-year-old put the home side ahead in the 13th minute when striker Mladen Petric produced a bullet header which was saved by Jena's goalkeeper Vasili Khomutovski, but Tinga was the first to react and slide the ball home. And the Brazil international produced a cool pass on 70 minutes which Dortmund midfielder Florian Kringe fired home, but when Khomuovski parried his save striker Diego Klimowicz followed up to make it 2-0 on 71 minutes. Petric made it 3-0 just three minutes from time with a well-taken strike. The defeat in Dortmund was the end of the road for Jena after they put VfB Stuttgart out of the quarter-finals with a dramatic penalty win.

Jean Todt resigns as CEO
Jean Todt resigned as CEO of Ferrari on Tuesday and will assume a "special appointment" within the company's racing department. Amedeo Felisa, formerly Ferrari's general manager, was appointed to replace Todt as CEO, the company said in a statement following a shareholders meeting. Todt already handed over his position as director of Ferrari's Formula 1 team to Stefano Domenicali in November. Todt will remain a member of Ferrari's board and maintain his positions as president of the boards of directors of Ferrari Asia Pacific and Ferrari West Europe. He will also continue to represent Ferrari at the FIA World Council. Ferrari said Todt would be given a "special appointment" by president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo.
