Jamie Langenbrunner scored on a 5-on-3 power play early in the third period for the Devils. Alexander Semin tied the game about two minutes later for the Capitals.

At New York, much-maligned Marek Malik scored his first goal of the season, and Jaromir Jagr netted his second in two games in New York's blanking of Florida.

Patrick Sharp had two goals and an assist for Chicago, increasing his career high total to 31 and becoming the Blackhawks' first 30-goal scorer since Eric Daze finished the 2001-02 season with 38. Rookie Jonathan Toews had three assists.
