SCOTS HAMMERED: German giants Bayern Munich will face Anderlecht next month after they proved too strong for Aberdeen, with Lukas Podolski scoring twice

Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen each recorded a 5-1 win on Thursday to reach the next round of the UEFA Cup.

Bayern beat Aberdeen to set up a meeting with 1983 champions Anderlecht, who got past Bordeaux, and Leverkusen routed 2000 winners Galatasaray.

Everton beat Brann 6-1 to advance, but English rivals Tottenham needed a string of saves from recalled goalkeeper Paul Robinson to earn a 1-1 draw with Slavia Prague and a place in the round of 16.

Another English side, Bolton, forced the biggest surprise when they drew 0-0 at Atletico Madrid to complete a 1-0 aggregate win over the Spanish powerhouse.

PSV Eindhoven, Fiorentina and Sporting Lisbon also advanced to the next two-legged round of Europe's second-tier club competition.

Bayern were held 2-2 by Aberdeen in Scotland last week but went ahead in the 12th minute from a fierce free kick from Lucio.

Fellow central defender Daniel van Buyten made it 2-0 when he headed in a free kick.

Lukas Podolski, making a rare start, scored the third in the 71st from a rebound after goalkeeper Jamie Langfield had parried an effort by Miroslav Klose and the Germany striker scored again six minutes later with a header off a corner by Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Steve Lovell got the visitors' only goal in the 83rd with a header past keeper Oliver Kahn at the far post, but Mark van Bommel capped off the scoring with a shot inside the far post.

Bayern will meet Anderlecht next after the Belgian club drew 1-1 at Bordeaux for a 3-2 aggregate win.

Bayer Leverkusen veteran Sergej Barbarez scored in the 11th and 22nd to lead his team to a surprisingly big win over Galatasaray.

Stefan Kiessling scored in the 13th, Karim Haggui in the 55th and Bernd Schneider completed the scoring by converting a penalty in the 60th.

Ahmed Barusso converted another penalty for Galatasaray's only goal in the 87th, while Leverkusen advanced to a meeting with German rivals Hamburger SV, who drew 0-0 with FC Zurich to advance 3-1 on aggregate.

Yakubu Aiyegbeni scored a hat trick to lead Everton past Brann and earn a meeting against Fiorentina, who completed a 3-1 aggregate win over Rosenborg with a 2-1 home win.

Two-time winners Tottenham advanced 3-2 thanks to a 2-1 first-leg win at Slavia Prague.

They rested several players ahead of tomorrow's English League Cup final against Chelsea and seemed in control on Thursday when Jamie O'Hara scored through a crowd of players in the seventh minute.

But Matej Krajcik equalized six minutes into the second half with a volley and David Strihavka almost put the visitors ahead when he hit the post.

Robinson, who had spent a month out of the team after a series of errors, then made several saves to preserve his team's narrow advantage -- the best a diving, one-handed stop from a curling free kick by Daniel Pudil.

Spurs play PSV next after the Dutch side completed a second straight win over Helsingborg.

Bolton stopped Atletico from scoring for the second time to earn a surprise match against Sporting Lisbon, who won 3-0 at FC Basel.

Benfica got two late goals to escape with a 2-2 draw at FC Nuremburg allowing them to advance 3-2.

Oscar Cardozo scored in the 89th after a poor clearance by the Nuremberg defense and Angel di Maria finished off a counterattack two minutes into injury time to cancel out second-half goals by Angelos Charisteas and Ivan Saenko.

Rangers drew 1-1 at Panathinaikos to eliminate the Greek side on away goals, while Zenit St Petersburg got past Villarreal 2-2 on the same rule.

Marseille advanced 3-2 despite a 2-0 loss at Spartak Moscow, while Getafe beat AEK Athens 3-0 to go through 4-1, and Werder Bremen went through 4-0 after a 1-0 win at Braga.

The first legs of the round of 16 are scheduled for March 6, with the return matches the following week.
