The NHL-leading Detroit Red Wings blew a chance to match their longest winning streak, losing 5-3 to the Los Angeles Kings -- who have the worst record in the league -- on Thursday.

The Red Wings held a two-goal lead and were on track to match the franchise record of nine-straight wins, but Los Angeles scored on four of their first eight shots in the third period to clinch an unlikely victory.

The Kings hadn't won in Detroit since 2000.

    Senators 5, Panthers 4

In Ottawa, Dany Heatley had two goals and an assist in his return from a shoulder injury to lead Ottawa over Florida.

The Senators had gone 3-8-0 in Heatley's absence, but his second goal of the game in the third period proved to be the winner, boosting their Northeast Division lead to three points.

The Panthers had won three straight but missed the chance to go top of the Southeast Division.

    Penguins 4, Islanders 3

In Pittsburgh, Ryan Whitney had two goals to move Pittsburgh equal top of the Atlantic Division and hand New York their sixth consecutive loss.

Kris Letang scored via a deflection of a defender's stick with 3:39 to play to clinch the win for the Penguins, who have gained at least a point in four of their past five.

    Ducks 4, Rangers 1

In New York, Anaheim scored two goals 1:27 apart to break open a tight game in the second period and beat New York.

The defending Stanley Cup champions have found their offense in a pair of road wins this week following a six-game losing streak.

    Stars 1, Wild 0

In St. Paul, Minnesota, Mike Smith stopped 25 shots to give Dallas a shutout win over Minnesota.

Niklas Hagman scored the winner early in the third period for Dallas, who have won five straight overall, and five straight on the road.

    Canucks 2, Thrashers 1

In Atlanta, Alex Burrows' goal midway through the third period completed a rare third-period rally for Vancouver, beating Atlanta.

The Canucks had been 1-19-1 this season when trailing after two periods.

Vancouver ended a streak of four straight losses by one goal and moved within three points of the Northwest Division lead.

    Maple Leafs 4, Canadiens 2

In Montreal, Darcy Tucker scored his second goal of the game into an empty net as Toronto beat rival Montreal.

Vesa Toskala made 34 saves for the Maple Leafs, who had lost four of five.

    Lightning 2, Predators 1, OT

In Nashville, Tennessee, Vaclav Prospal scored at 58 seconds of overtime to give Tampa Bay victory over Nashville.

The win was Tampa's sixth-straight road victory, and they moved within three wins of division leaders Washington.

    Blue Jackets 2, Coyotes 1

In Glendale, Arizona, Jason Chimera and Nikolai Zherdev scored early in the first period to lead Columbus over Phoenix.

The win was the Blue Jackets' third straight over Phoenix.

    Blackhawks 3, Flames 1

In Calgary, Alberta, Chicago goalie Nikolai Khabibulin made 26 saves to improve to 19-5-2 against Calgary.

Khabibulin also was Tampa Bay's goalie in 2004 when the Lightning defeated the Flames in the Stanley Cup finals.

Calgary missed a chance to go top of the Northwest Division.
