A Super Bowl frenzy hit the sports pubs of Taipei yesterday morning with Taiwanese and foreign fans thronging to watch the live match-up between the New England Patriots and New York Giants.
The Tavern Premier, kept its doors open throughout the night and showed a full program of Super Bowl XLII, including pre-game shows, highlights of previous Super Bowls and of course the live broadcast of the big game itself from 7am Taipei time.
David Rucledge, an American teaching English in Taipei, described himself as a "super fan."
"For Americans, this game is a big deal, like Christmas. It's like a national holiday," he said, adding, "this is the only game for which I will wake up at 6 o'clock in the morning."
