Beckham misses out on opportunity to win 100th cap

David Beckham has been told he has missed out on Fabio Capello's first England squad but reassured that he could still get the chance to win his 100th cap, according to English media reports.

Capello was due to announce his first squad since succeeding Steve McClaren as head coach yesterday and it appeared that Beckham would not be in it.

Capello reportedly telephoned the midfielder on Wednesday evening to let him know he had not made a 30-man provisional squad for next week's friendly against Switzerland at Wembley.

The Italian was said to have reassured Beckham that he would be considered for selection in future squads once he is playing club soccer on a regular basis.
