Valencia's woeful run continues with defeat at Villareal

Robert Pires, Joan Capdevila and Nihat Kahveci scored on Saturday to lead Villarreal to a 3-0 victory over Valencia in the Spanish league.

Villarreal improved to third in the standings with 38 points after repeating the same scoreline from their previous game against Valencia this season. Valencia -- who haven't won in eight games and have just one victory since the arrival of coach Ronald Koeman -- stayed on 27 points.

Earlier, substitute Cosmin Contra headed in the winner two minutes into injury time to give Getafe a 3-2 win over Sevilla.

The Romanian defender leapt clear to meet Jaime Gamilan's curling cross, after Ivica Dragutinovic seemed to have earned Sevilla a draw in the 89th with a header from a corner.

At El Madrigal, Pires initiated a sequence down the left flank in the sixth minute that he eventually capped with a curling shot over the outstretched Timo Hildebrand that landed inside the far post.

Capdevila turned in a corner kick in the 64th for the second before Nihat -- who had two near-misses in the first half -- chipped over the charging Hildebrand six minutes later for his 11th goal of the season.

Luis Fabiano gave Sevilla the lead in the 16th minute, heading in his league-leading 13th goal of the season, before Francisco Javier Casquero equalized in the 32nd with a volley from the edge of the area into the top right of the goal.

Juan Angel Albin made it 2-1 for Getafe in the 58th, heading in Pablo Hernandez's cross.

Both teams combined for nine chances on goal in a fast-paced and frantic first half, with Esteban Granero hitting the post three minutes after Fabiano's opener.

Sevilla goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis was busy throughout, tipping Granero's header over the bar in the 34th and diving to his right to deny Casquero two minutes into the second half.

Getafe had a chance to put it away in the 78th on a counter attack, but Manu del Moral's low shot was stopped.
