    Greis wins 10km sprint

Three-time Olympic champion Michael Greis won a 10km sprint race on Saturday for Germany's first biathlon World Cup victory of the season. Greis didn't miss a target as he won the 10km sprint race in 24 minutes, 59.2 seconds. Russia's Maxim Tchudov was second, 19.8 seconds back, followed by Alexander Wolf of Germany, 30.5 behind. "Finally a win, with the success the fun is coming back," Greis said. "The surprise was it came in sprint, in which I have never won an Olympic medal."

    Aussies call up Rogers

Uncapped opening batsman Chris Rogers has been added to Australia's squad for the third Test against India in Perth as cover for the injured Matthew Hayden, Cricket Australia (CA) said yesterday. Hayden is nursing a hamstring injury and Rogers has been brought in to the squad in case he does not recover in time for the first day's play on Wednesday. "Matthew has taken part in training today," Australia team physio Alex Kountouris said in a CA statement yesterday. "We will continue with the program on his hamstring and make a decision about Matthew's fitness and availability much closer to game time."

    ■ SWIMMING

    Gusmao undone by DNA

A prosecutor asked a judge on Friday to charge Brazilian star Rebeca Gusmao with fraud because her doping tests during last year's Pan American Games had the DNA of another person. Gusmao has denied wrongdoing but could face at least a year in prison if convicted on the charge of false representation, prosecutor Alexandre Murilo Graca said in a statement. Gusmao, who tested positive for testosterone just before the July games in Rio de Janeiro, was stripped last month of two gold medals, one silver and one bronze. The criminal case started after the Brazilian swimming confederation said there was evidence Gusmao's urine samples during the games were altered and asked authorities to launch an investigation.
