Mathieu Garon made 35 saves for his third shutout of the NHL season and Ales Hemsky and Shawn Horcoff had a goal and assist each as the Edmonton Oilers beat the New York Islanders 4-0 on Monday.
It was Edmonton's first regulation win in 17 games since Dec. 2. Marty Reasoner and Jarret Stoll also scored for Edmonton, which had six overtime and shootout victories in that span. New York dropped their third straight.
The Oilers outshot New York 12-10 in the first period but Garon and Islanders counterpart Rick DiPietro turned aside everything in the scoreless frame.
Stars 3, Wild 1
At Dallas, Antti Miettinen scored two goals to help Dallas end a four-game losing streak with a win over Minnesota.
Rookie Matt Niskanen also scored for the Stars, who hadn't lost four in a row since a five-game skid in 2003. Mike Ribeiro, who signed a new five-year, US$25 million contract on Monday, added two assists for Dallas.
Edmonton Oilers left-winger Raffi Torres will have surgery to repair a torn knee ligament and will miss the rest of the season.
The team said Monday that Torres will have surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He hasn't played since hurting the knee in a game against Detroit on Dec. 13.
