World No. 6 Adam Scott hit the front at the halfway stage of the Australian PGA Championship yesterday as he seeks to claim his first elusive professional victory at home.
Scott's second-successive five-under round of 67 put him at 10-under 134 after 36 holes. He leads dual winner Peter Lonard and South African world No.11 Rory Sabbatini by one stroke.
Scott applied the heat to his rivals late in his round with back-to-back birdies at the 15th and 16th holes.
Australians Cameron Percy (70-66), Scott Laycock (69-67) and New Zealander David Smail (67-69) were next all on eight under.
Scott said he had had better chances to win before at home and refused to get too excited about being in front heading into the weekend.
"I've had some good chances [to win] but I can turn this one into my best chance," he said.
"If Pete and Rory step it up, I think I can run with them. I'll get excited on the back nine on Sunday ... if I'm still there," Scott said.
Lonard carded his first bogey at the tournament in 108 holes when he dropped a shot at the 162m par three 11th hole after missing the green to the left.
