    Rougerie v GREENING

    AFP, LONDON
    Monday, Nov 19, 2007, Page 19

The Professional Rugby Players' Association (PRPA) on Saturday slammed a French civil court ruling which found former Wasps and England hooker Phil Greening guilty of injuring Clermont winger Aurelien Rougerie in 2002.

Rougerie, who was a member of France's World Cup squad, was suing Greening for more than 90,000 euros (US$132,000) for the loss of income during his 12-week hospitalization and recovery from the injury sustained more than five years ago.

"It sets a very dangerous precedent in a full contact sport. Because of that there is a bound to be widespread concern at this ruling," PRPA chief executive Damian Hopley said.
