Richard Jefferson scored 25 points, including two game-winning free throws with 24 seconds left, as the New Jersey Nets rallied past the winless Washington Wizards 87-85 in the NBA on Thursday.
The Nets' fourth victory in five games wasn't secured until Antoine Wright forced Gilbert Arenas to his right and the Washington guard had to take an off-balance shot that was deflected by Vince Carter.
Carter had 24 points, including 12-of-14 from the line, to help New Jersey rally from a 20-point first-half deficit.

Bostjan Nachbar had 10 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, when the Nets shot 65 percent.
Antawn Jamison had 24 points and nine rebounds for Washington, while Caron Butler and Arenas both had 21 points.
The 0-4 start is the first for Washington since 1992-1993.
Bulls 97, Pistons 93
At Chicago, Tyrus Thomas had 19 points and 14 rebounds and Chicago got its first victory after opening the season with four losses.
Rasheed Wallace had 36 points for Detroit in the first meeting between the teams since Detroit won the Eastern Conference semifinals in six games last spring.
Luol Deng added 17 points and Ben Gordon had 16 for the Bulls, while Kirk Hinrich had 14 assists.
Richard Hamilton scored 18 points for the Pistons, who lost after winning their first three games. Chicago's Joe Smith made one of two from the line to make it 96-93 and the Pistons had a chance to tie.
Hamilton's 3-pointer was short and the Bulls rebounded with 2.9 seconds left. Thomas' free throw sealed the victory.
Mavericks 120, Warriors 115
Dirk Nowitzki scored 22 points to lead the Dallas Mavericks at Golden State.
Nowitzki scored eight points in the fourth quarter, Jerry Stackhouse hit a 3-pointer with 37 seconds left and the Mavericks got a bit of hollow revenge from their historic playoff defeat with a 120-115 victory over the winless Warriors.
Josh Howard had 24 points for the Mavericks, who snapped a five-game regular-season losing streak against the Warriors.
They held off another sublime performance from Baron Davis, who scored 15 of his 37 points in the fourth quarter as a six-man Golden State rotation repeatedly threatened to embarrass Dallas again.

Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei on Saturday won silver in the men’s under-60kg category at the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong. Nicknamed the “judo heartthrob” in Taiwan, the Olympic silver-medalist missed out on his first Asian Championships gold when he lost to Japanese judoka Taiki Nakamura in the finals. Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). Rafael Nadal on Wednesday said the upcoming French Open would be the moment to “give everything and die” on the court after his comeback from injury in Barcelona was curtailed by Alex de Minaur. The 22-time Grand Slam title winner, back playing this week after three months on the sidelines, battled well, but eventually crumbled 7-5, 6-1 against the world No. 11 from Australia in the second round. Nadal, 37, who missed virtually all of last season, is hoping to compete at the French Open next month where he is the record 14-time champion. The Spaniard said the clash with De Minaur was
