Viktor Kozlov had a goal and two assists in the second period and the Washington Capitals ended Ottawa's franchise-record winning streak at eight games with a 4-1 victory over the Senators in the NHL on Thursday.
Olaf Kolzig made 27 saves for Washington, which had lost four in a row and 10 of its last 12 (1-1-11), including a 2-1 overtime loss in Atlanta on Tuesday.
Alexander Ovechkin scored his 10th goal with 3:45 left in the third to restore Washington's three-goal lead after Kozlov, Nicklas Backstrom and Tomas Fleischman each scored in the second to put the Capitals up 3-0.

At Boston, rookie Carey Price made 28 saves and Montreal beat Boston for a fifth straight time.
Alex Kovalev and Tomas Plekanec scored for the Canadiens, whose line of Kovalev, Plekanec and Andrei Kastsitsyn combined for six points.
Marco Sturm cut Montreal's lead in half with 5:48 left in the second when he backhanded a shot past Price.
Boston has dropped four straight and has scored only four goals in the last four games.

At Calgary, Alberta, the Canucks' Byron Ritchie notched his first goal of the season against his former team, Roberto Luongo made 35 saves and Vancouver hung on.
Scoreless after the first period, Vancouver took control in the second, scoring three times in less than six minutes through Brendan Morrison, Ritchie and Alex Burrows.
Anders Eriksson and Owen Nolan scored for Calgary, which has lost four in a row and watched center Daymond Langkow knocked out halfway through the second period when he smashed his head into the glass on a check by Matt Cooke, who was penalized for boarding.

At New York, Brandon Dubinsky's first NHL goal and Sean Avery's first of the season paced New York's best offensive output since opening night.
Scott Gomez netted his fourth, scoring off an assist from Avery, and Michal Rozsival added a power-play goal in the first period for the Rangers.
Sergei Gonchar got the first puck past Henrik Lundqvist, bringing Pittsburgh into a 1-1 tie in the first.
Penguins captain Sidney Crosby earned his 15th assist to extend his career-best point streak to 15 games.

At Newark, New Jersey, veteran Dainius Zubrus and rookie Rodney Pelley scored their first goals of the season in a three-goal flurry to help New Jersey win for the second time in eight games.
Zubrus and Brian Gionta scored within 18 seconds of each other in the first period after spotting Philadelphia a 1-0 lead, and Zubrus scored again late in the period to give New Jersey a 3-1 lead.
Martin Brodeur was barely tested by the Flyers, who were outshot by the Devils 30-8 through the first two periods and 39-14 overall.

At Raleigh, North Carolina, Shane O'Brien scored two goals to lead Tampa Bay to its first road victory of the season.
Vincent Lecavalier, Filip Kuba and Vaclav Prospal each scored for the Lightning, who were 0-7 away from home this season. Prospal and Michel Ouellet added two early assists as Tampa Bay won consecutive games following a six-game losing streak.
Johan Holmqvist finished with 40 saves.
Ray Whitney scored early in the third to break up Holmqvist's shutout bid for Southeast Division-leading Carolina.
