Briton Andy Murray moved a step closer to a place in the prestigious Masters Cup after winning the Saint Petersburg Open on Sunday against Spaniard Fernando Verdasco.
"I played effectively, without committing any errors. I didn't give my opponent many chances," said the Scot after winning the tournament 6-2, 6-3.
Murray was never really in difficulty on his service and broke the Spaniard's serve in the third and fifth games of the first set.
The Scot continued his dominance in the second set breaking Verdasco's serve in the first and last games.
It is the second title of the year for the world number 16 following his victory in San Jose, for the second year running -- the only event where he has claimed an ATP title previously.
The Masters Cup, in Shanghai, takes the best eight players from the season and Sunday's victory means Murray is now just three qualifying points behind current number eight Tommy Haas with only one ranking event -- the Masters Series in Paris -- to play.
"There's one tournament to go and I still have a chance of getting to Shanghai," Murray said.
"I'm going to try my best and if I win a couple of matches [in Paris] I have a good chance."
