"We're not going through a good phase. We're a bit inattentive and a little slow," coach Carlo Ancelotti said.
Milan's only highlights this season have come in Europe, beating Sevilla in the European Super Cup and opening the defense of its Champions League title with a win over Benfica.
"Maybe we've become a bit too predictable in the league," club vice president Adriano Galliani said.
Milan is tied for 11th place with seven points, seven behind city rival Inter Milan.
Martinez scored from a counterattack, converting off a cross from Gionatha Spinesi with goalkeeper Zeljko Kalac nowhere near him. Kalac played in place of injured Dida, who has an inflamed shoulder.
Andrea Pirlo hit the crossbar with a free kick for Milan in the 28th and Filippo Inzaghi's goal off the rebound was annulled because it was offside.
Catania midfielder Mark Edusei was called for a handball in the 47th that led to Kaka's penalty. Kaka risked a second yellow card for grabbing the ball out of Catania's net but the referee put the card back in his pocket after flashing it for an instant.
Juventus beat Torino 1-0 with a goal from David Trezeguet three minutes into second-half added time. The France striker scored with a volley from the center of the area for his seventh goal this season, tying him with Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the league lead.
Napoli was beaten 2-1 at home by Genoa in a game played without fans. The match was played behind closed doors as punishment for fans' behavior during a 1-0 win over Livorno last Wednesday, when supporters at the San Paolo stadium displayed an offensive banner and threw bottles onto the field -- one of which was full and hit an assistant referee in the chest.
Genoa went ahead in the 12th when Napoli's Paolo Cannavaro scored an own goal while trying to prevent a cross from reaching Marco Borriello.
Maurizio Domizzi equalized with a penalty in the 51st after Ezequiel Lavezzi was dragged down in the area and Giuseppe Sculli scored the winner for Genoa in the 89th. Sculli headed in a cross from Borriello for his first goal after an eight-month suspension after a match-fixing investigation.
Palermo lost 3-1 at Empoli after going ahead 1-0 with a goal from Edison Cavani in the 39th following a failed clearing attempt by Empoli goalkeeper Daniele Balli.
Empoli responded with goals by Nicola Pozzi, Sabastian Giovinco and Ighli Vannucchi.
Udinese edged past Parma 2-1 after falling behind 1-0 when Bernardo Corradi scored off a counterattack for Parma in the 72nd minute.
Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei on Saturday won silver in the men’s under-60kg category at the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong. Nicknamed the “judo heartthrob” in Taiwan, the Olympic silver-medalist missed out on his first Asian Championships gold when he lost to Japanese judoka Taiki Nakamura in the finals. Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). He
Rafael Nadal on Wednesday said the upcoming French Open would be the moment to “give everything and die” on the court after his comeback from injury in Barcelona was curtailed by Alex de Minaur. The 22-time Grand Slam title winner, back playing this week after three months on the sidelines, battled well, but eventually crumbled 7-5, 6-1 against the world No. 11 from Australia in the second round. Nadal, 37, who missed virtually all of last season, is hoping to compete at the French Open next month where he is the record 14-time champion. The Spaniard said the clash with De Minaur was
