Thomas Bjorn shot a third round 6-under 66 on Saturday to grab a share of the Mercedes-Benz Championship lead with fellow Dane Soren Hansen at 12-under 204.
Hansen threw away a three-stroke lead with bogeys on his last three holes, settling for a 71 after his shot into the water on the 18th.
The 36-year-old Bjorn shot six birdies, despite having played just once in the last seven weeks before the no-cut event where 27 of the 78 players have won titles this season.
"I've never had a summer holiday since I was 14 and now with three kids I really wanted to spend some time with them," Bjorn said. "You go out looking to get the rust off, then you have a round like this."
Scotland's Alastair Forsyth took advantage of a warm, windless day to move a stroke behind, firing a career-best 10-under 62 with nine birdies, an eagle and a bogey. Lee Westwood shared fourth at 206 with a 72, along with Simon Khan (69) and Richard Green (66).
Bernhard Langer shot a 70, leaving him tied seventh and three strokes behind. The 50-year-old German is bidding to claim his 70th career title and become the oldest player to ever win on the European Tour.
"I lost my swing today and made too many bad shots on the first nine holes," Langer said.
Langer had two of his three bogeys on the front nine, before a run of four birdies in five holes salvaged the round.
Forsyth had an opening round 76. On Friday, he shot a 67 to go with his 62 on Saturday. The Scot is chasing his first top-three finish in two years.
"I was just happy there wasn't a cut after the opening day and then I played better yesterday and today was great," Forsyth said.
