Shandong and Jiangsu of the Chinese Basketball Association battled in the final game of the Straits Cup basketball tournament yesterday, with Jiangsu coming back from an 18-point deficit to win 73-70.
The match came three days after Jiangsu's Meng Da bloodied Taiwan Beer center Wu Tai-hao's nose at the end of a game on Monday night, prompting Taiwan Beer to pull out of the tournament and Straits Cup officials to cut the tourney's last six games to two.
On Wednesday night, Shandong defeated the Dacin Tigers 76-70.
With five minutes left in the second quarter last night, Shandong had taken a commanding 18-point lead.
Jiangsu used a tight defense to battle their way back into the game and Jiangsu's Chen Fei cut the Shandong lead to just four points with a layup with just more than four minutes left in the third quarter to make it 46-42.
Jiangsu nailed a three with seven minutes left in the fourth to cut Shandong's lead to 60-59. Jiangsu took the lead on a drive to the hoop with five minutes left to play.
Jiangsu got the ball with 45 seconds left and a strong inside bucket and free throw with three seconds left gave them a 73-70 win.

US track and field athletes have about four dozen pieces to choose from when assembling their uniforms at the Olympics. The one grabbing the most attention is a high-cut leotard that barely covers the bikini line and has triggered debate between those who think it is sexist and others who say they do not need the Internet to make sure they have good uniforms. Among those critical or laughing at the uniforms included Paralympian Femita Ayanbeku, sprinter Britton Wilson and even athletes from other countries such as Britain’s Abigail Irozuru, who wrote on social media: “Was ANY female athlete consulted in

Former US Masters champion Zach Johnson was left embarrassed after a foul-mouthed response to ironic cheers from spectators after a triple bogey at Augusta National on Friday. Johnson, the 2007 Masters winner, missed the cut after his three-over-par round of 75 left him on seven-over 151 for 36 holes, his six on the par-three 12th playing a big role in his downfall. Television footage showed Johnson reacting to sarcastic cheers and applause when he tapped in for the triple bogey by yelling: “Oh fuck off.” Such a response would be considered bad form in any golf tournament, but is particularly out of keeping
