Taiwanese women crush New Zealand

Taiwan was off to a solid start as they beat New Zealand in straight sets on the first day of the Asian Senior Women's Volleyball Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, on Wednesday.
The Taiwanese women won their Group C match 25-19, 25-6, 25-13, while Kazakhstan beat Iran 25-10, 25-16, 25-12.
In other matches, Vietnam beat Sri Lanka 25-11, 25-9, 25-10 in Group B, while Thailand trounced Australia 25-13, 25-11, 25-12.
In Group D, Japan beat Uzbekistan 25-8, 25-10, 25-11, while Indonesia eased past South Korea 25-17, 25-19, 25-11.
After the group round-robin preliminaries come to a close today, the top two teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals in a round-robin format.
In the Asian Men's Senior Volleyball Championship in Jakarta, Taiwan lost a hard-fought game to Thailand on Wednesday. They lost their Pool E match 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-11).
"We are very sad about this loss. Thailand played very well and their hard-fought game against China last night made our players a little nervous," Taiwan head coach Chen Chun-liang said.
Also in Pool E, China beat Indonesia in a hard-fought five-set 2-3 (16-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-23, 10-15) game.
The win left China on top of Pool E with three wins and no loss.
