David Beckham is in major doubt for England's two upcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers after straining knee ligaments while playing for Los Angeles Galaxy in the Super Liga final on Wednesday.
Beckham left the field in the 30th minute after injuring his right knee in a fall.
The injury puts the former England captain in doubt for the qualifiers against Israel on Sept. 8 and Russia on Sept. 12.
It is the latest injury setback for the midfielder, whose two months in the US have been hampered by a nagging ankle problem.
"It's just gone from one thing to another thing. Maybe it is a sign to give it a rest, get it right and not come back until it is right," Beckham told reporters after the game which Galaxy lost on penalties.
The former England captain fell badly and after limping off, he received treatment to his right knee and watched the rest of the match from the bench.
A Galaxy spokesman said Beckham had suffered a sprain to his right knee while the midfielder indicated the injury could be more serious.
"I'm going to have a scan tomorrow and we'll see the full extent of what it is and how long I'll be out, but at the moment, it doesn't feel great," Beckham said.
"At this stage, it's hard to tell, but it doesn't feel good. With a ligament strain, it's four-to-six weeks. We'll have to wait and see," he said. "I'm devastated to have been taken out of the game when I was because I was looking forward to this game."
