David Ortiz homered twice and Kevin Youkilis added a three-run shot as the Boston Red Sox routed the Chicago White Sox 10-1 to take both ends of a doubleheader in the American League on Friday.
In the opener, Josh Beckett (16-5) became the major leagues' first 16-game winner and Jason Varitek had four RBIs to lead the Red Sox to an 11-3 victory.
The Red Sox's bats kept rolling in the nightcap and made it easy for Curt Schilling (8-5), who allowed three hits and a run in six innings.
Boston drove out struggling rookie John Danks (6-12) in a five-run fourth that featured Ortiz's two-run homer, RBI doubles from Mike Lowell and Coco Crisp, an RBI single by Kevin Cash and two walks.
In the opener, Jon Garland (8-10), allowed nine hits and six runs in seven-plus innings.

Greg Maddux became the first pitcher to win 10 games in 20 consecutive seasons, tossing seven innings in San Diego's 14-3 rout of Philadelphia on Friday.
The win moved the Padres within two games of Arizona atop the National League West, and three games clear of the Phillies in the wildcard race. Philadelphia is now six games off National League East leaders New York.
Milton Bradley hit a pair of three-run homers for San Diego, which had a season-high 22 hits.
Maddux (10-9) allowed just three runs, outpitching Jamie Moyer (11-10) in a matchup of 40-something starters with a combined 570 wins.

The left-handed Marshall (7-6) cruised through a lineup with eight right-handed hitters.

Diamondbacks starter Micah Owings (6-7) struggled through a 36-pitch first inning.
Owings fared better with the bat, hitting his third home run in five at-bats.
