The Taiwanese little league baseball team earned its third straight win on Sunday at the Pony Baseball Bronco League World Series being held in Monterey, California.
The team -- made up of students from Sijhih Elementary School in Taipei County -- trounced the Lafayette team from Indiana 16-1 to win the Green Division.
With the victory, the Taiwanese won the Green Division and qualified for the semi-finals. They were due to take on the runner-up in the White Division yesterday afternoon for the right to compete in the championship game slated for today.
On the opening day of the eight-team tournament on Thursday, the Taiwanese squad beat the Stratford team from Connecticut by a score of 15-3 before going on to trounce the Pacific Grove team from California 27-1 on Saturday.
Team manager, Chang Yao-teng, said that despite their three consecutive wins, the boys will have to step it up a notch if they want to win their next two games to take the championship.
The Taiwanese little leaguers have been warmly received by the organizers of the tournament and the local Chinese community. During Sunday's game, the organizers even played three Taiwanese songs to entertain the spectators.
