    Taiwan suffers third defeat

Taiwan yesterday suffered its third straight defeat in the quarter-finals of the FIBA Asian Championship in Tokushima, Japan, when it was beaten by Qatar 74-87.

The loss means Taiwan finishes at the bottom of group E with a record of 0-3.

It will next begin playing for fifth place in a four-team consolation bracket with Quatar, Japan and a third team that was yet to be determined from group F as of press time last night.

Taiwan once again found itself in an early deficit yesterday after Qatar outscored it 20-12 in the first quarter.

Chen Hsin-an led the team again with 18 points and seven rebounds to give him an average of 17.7 points per game in the tournament.

Meanwhile, two of Quatar's players provided more than half the team's offense, with Yasseen Musa racking up 24 points and 10 rebounds and Saad Abdulrahman Ali contributing another 20 points and four rebounds.
