Curtis Granderson went 3-for-3, including a leadoff homer, walked, was hit by a pitch and drove in four runs for the Tigers.
Jason Grilli (4-2) pitched one inning of relief to earn the victory for the Tigers, who have won 12 of 16. Todd Jones pitched a perfect ninth for his 27th save.

At Arlington, Texas, Sammy Sosa hit career home run No. 603 and had five RBIs as Texas edged Seattle.
Sosa's three-run homer in the fifth broke a 3-3 tie and was his 15th this season -- one more than he had in 102 games for Baltimore in 2005 before sitting out last year.
Brad Wilkerson hit his 15th homer in the fifth, a two-run shot that chased Horacio Ramirez (5-3).
Sosa was 6-for-43 (.140) with one RBI over his last 12 games. He was in an 0-for-10 slump before his two-run double in the third put the Rangers ahead 3-2.
Athletics 12, Angels 6
At Anaheim, California, Mike Piazza hit a three-run homer and an RBI double and Mark Ellis added two solo homers and an RBI double for Oakland, which beat Los Angeles for its third win in 14 games.
It was the second home run of the year and first since April 5 for Piazza, who returned from the 15-day disabled list on Friday.
The A's rocked Bartolo Colon for four runs in the first inning, then scored at least one run in each of the next five innings to take a 12-5 lead.
Colon (6-6) left after the first inning because of soreness in his right elbow. He threw 33 pitches, giving up four hits and a walk. It was the fourth time in his career he pitched one inning or less.
