Australia completed its domination of the Jones Cup at Sinjhuang Stadium in Taipei County yesterday, defeating Taiwan B 74-44 to take the championship.

Australia ended the round-robin tournament with the only unbeaten record at 6-0.

The US and Taiwan B each finished at 4-2, South Korea finished at 3-3, Taiwan A and New Zealand each finished at 2-4 and Japan brought up the rear at 0-6.

Taiwan B knew it had its work cut out for it going into the game, and got off to a good start in the first quarter to take a 17-16 lead. But that was to be short-lived, as Australia put the hammer down to outscore Taiwan 21-8 in the second quarter and 58-27 in the final three quarters overall.

Taiwan A also fell in its final game of the tournament, losing 83-72 to the US. Taiwan came back from a rough first half in which it was outscored 34-43 by racking up 30 points in the third to take a 64-62 lead. But the US regrouped in the fourth quarter, getting solid contributions from the entire team to outscore Taiwan 21-8.

Chen Yi-feng led the Taiwan squad with 18 points and four rebounds.

New Zealand also saw its once promising tournament unravel as South Korea handed it its third straight loss at 96-60, despite a strong fourth quarter comeback attempt.

Once again, the South Korean squad was led by Kim Eun-kyoung, who scored 10 points and had four rebounds.
