Jessica Hardy won the women's 50m freestyle, and Nick Brunelli upset world champion Benjamin Wildman-Tobriner in the men's freestyle sprint on Saturday night at the Janet Evans Invitational.
Hardy, who specializes in the sprint breaststroke events, finished in 25.39 seconds - .014 seconds ahead of Brooke Bishop.
Courtney Cashion was third.
"I don't really like swimming the 200 breast, so I'm taking on more sprint events to keep my coaches from putting me in that," Hardy said. "So far it's working, and I'm dropping time every time I do it."
Brunelli won the men's 50 in 22.49, and Wildman-Tobriner touched in 22.55. South Africa's Roland Schoeman, the 2005 world champion, was third in 22.63.
Brunelli spent the last year recovering from a torn labrum in his shoulder, which he injured last summer at the US nationals.
"The shoulder's an afterthought, really," he said. "There's nothing getting in my way now, and that's a good feeling to have."
Rebecca Soni won the 200 breaststroke in 2:25.66 - more than five seconds ahead of Kerry Buchan of Scotland.
