Kelly Shoppach's pinch-hit three-run homer capped a five-run ninth inning rally and gave the Cleveland Indians an 8-5 win over the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday.

Shoppach hit a 1-0 pitch from Alan Embree (1-1) into the left-field bleachers for his fourth homer and lifted the Indians to their sixth win in nine games.

Oakland have now dropped five straight games.

Travis Hafner's two-out, two-run double tied it.

Grady Sizemore drew a one-out walk off Embree, who had blown only one of nine previous save chances. With two outs, Victor Martinez walked on four pitches and pitching coach Curt Young went to the mound to speak with Embree.

Hafner lined the next pitch to right-center to tie it at 5.

After Johnny Peralta was intentionally walked, Indians manager Eric Wedge called on Shoppach to bat for utility infielder Mike Rouse and the reserve catcher delivered the Indians' sixth win of the season in their last at-bat at Jacobs Field.

At Seattle, Richie Sexson hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to give Seattle its third and final lead in a win over Boston.

The Mariners also got a homer from Willie Bloomquist and overcame yet another shaky start by Felix Hernandez to win for the sixth time in seven games. They beat Boston for the seventh consecutive time in Seattle.

Seattle closer J.J. Putz struck out Mike Lowell, Jason Varitek and pinch-hitter Manny Ramirez in the ninth for his 22nd save in 22 chances, the longest current streak in the majors.

Eric O'Flaherty (5-0) relieved Hernandez, who allowed 11 hits in 5 2-3 innings, the third time in five starts he's given up at least that many hits.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia homered twice and slumping Andruw Jones went deep for the first time in two-and-a-half weeks to lead the Atlanta Braves past the Washington Nationals 6-2 on Tuesday.

Saltalamacchia hit solo shots in the third and fifth innings, the first multihomer game of the rookie's young career. But the most encouraging swing for the Braves came later in the fifth.

Jones was mired in a one-for-31 slump that had knocked his average below .200. He had gone 53 at-bats without managing even an extra-base hit since his last homer -- June 9 off Jason Marquis of the Chicago Cubs.

With two outs and two runners aboard, Jones got hold of a 3-1 pitch from Mike Bacsik (1-5). Jones leisurely tossed his bat aside as he watched the three-run shot sail into the left-field seats for his 12th homer this season.

Atlanta starter Buddy Carlyle (2-2) allowed a run in seven innings and Bob Wickman got the final two outs for his 14th save.

At Phoenix, a late Tony Abreu pinch-hit home run off Doug Slaten (3-1) lifted Los Angeles to an extra-inning victory over Arizona on Tuesday.
