The Taiwanese men's soccer team's hopes of making the final of the East Asian Football Federation Championship were dashed when Hong Kong thrashed Guam 15-1 in Macau on Thursday.
The win put Hong Kong into tomorrow's final because although they ended the group stage level on four points with Taiwan, they had a superior goal difference.
Hong Kong and Taiwan played out a 1-1 draw on Sunday but Taiwan's 10-0 defeat of Guam, the joint-lowest ranked team in FIFA's ratings, left them four goals adrift on goal difference.
Taiwan face Macau in tomorrow's third and fourth place play-off match while Hong Kong will face North Korea in the final later in the day.
North Korea earned their place in the final with a 7-1 defeat of Macau.
The winner of that match will qualify for next year's East Asian Football Federation Championship to be held in China next year.
