Rockies batter Clemens, complete sweep of Yankees

Roger Clemens couldn't hold on for his 350th win in Major League Baseball and the Colorado Rockies completed a three-game sweep of the New York Yankees with a 4-3 victory on Thursday.

Matt Holliday's RBI single with one out in the fifth broke a 2-2 tie and chased Clemens, who failed to hold a 2-0 lead and allowed four earned runs and seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Rodrigo Lopez (4-0) survived Hideki Matsui's 428-foot, two-run home run into the rock pile in center field and lasted five-and-two-thirds innings against the Yankees, who fell 10.5 games behind Boston in the American League's East Division.

    Rangers 6, Cubs 5

In Arlington, Texas, pinch-hitters Frank Catalanotto and Kenny Lofton singled off the gloves of diving Cubs outfielders in the bottom of the ninth inning, producing the winning run in the Rangers' victory.

Catalanotto hit a one-out liner down the right-field line that Angel Pagan nearly caught, sending Lofton home with the game winner.

    Orioles 6, Padres 3

In San Diego, Alberto Castillo hit his first home run in more than two years, leading Erik Bedard and the Orioles to the win.

The Orioles took two of three from the NL West-leading Padres.

The two wins came after a nine-game losing streak by Baltimore, which fired manager Sam Perlozzo on Monday and replaced him with Dave Trembley on an interim basis.

    Dodgers 8, Blue Jays 4

At Toronto, Jeff Kent hit a two-run home run and Russell Martin doubled to spark a six-run rally in the eighth inning to set up a Los Angeles victory over Toronto.

The Dodgers trailed 3-2 to begin the eighth before mounting a one-out rally against Toronto pitcher Casey Janssen (2-1).

Janssen didn't retire any of the six batters he faced, allowing six runs, five hits and a walk.

The outing raised Janssen's ERA from 0.95 to 2.37. He entered the game having allowed just four earned runs over 38 innings this season.

LA pitcher Rudy Seanez (4-1) got two outs for the victory.

    Mariners 3, Pirates 0

At Seattle, pitcher Felix Hernandez allowed just six hits in eight innings in his best start since returning from injury as Seattle shut out Pittsburgh for the second straight game.

Ichiro Suzuki had two hits for the Mariners to extend his hitting streak to 16 games, the longest in the majors. He has at least one hit in 41 of his last 43 games.

Hernandez (4-4) struck out nine and walked one, returning to the form he showed before he went on the disabled list in April because of a strained forearm.

Seattler closer J.J. Putz allowed a single in the ninth before finishing up for his 20th save.
