Yankees extend winning streak

Mike Mussina pitched into the eighth inning, Alex Rodriguez hit his major league-leading 25th homer and the New York Yankees beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2 to extend their season-high winning streak to eight games on Wednesday.
Hideki Matsui hit a three-run homer and Jorge Posada also connected for New York (32-31), which has a winning record for the first time since April 20.
Mussina (3-3) allowed two runs and six hits in 7 2-3 innings to earn his first win since May 9.
Livan Hernandez (5-4) gave up seven runs and nine hits in four innings.
Conor Jackson homered and Chris Young hit a sacrifice fly for Arizona, which has lost five of six.
Phillies 8, White Sox 4
At Philadelphia, Aaron Rowand hit a grand slam and drove in five runs, helping Philadelphia complete its first home sweep this season.
Wes Helms hit his first homer of the season for the Phillies.
Jim Thome was 2-for-3 and received a standing ovation in his first game in Philadelphia since the Phillies traded him to Chicago in 2005.
Filling in for the injured Freddy Garcia, Kyle Kendrick gave up three runs and six hits in six innings in his major league debut. Ryan Madson (1-2) pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the win.
Pinch-hitter Abraham Nunez's run-scoring single off Matt Thornton (2-2) gave the Phillies a 4-3 lead in the seventh. Two batters later, Rowand hit his second career slam. His five RBIs tied a career-high.
Angels 6, Reds 3
At Cincinnati, Vladimir Guerrero emerged from his deep slump by driving in four runs for Los Angeles, and John Lackey became the major leagues' first 10-game winner.
Guerrero, who was in an 0-for-14 slump, drove in runs with a grounder and two doubles off Kyle Lohse (3-8). The four RBIs matched Guerrero's season high.
Lackey (10-4) gave up four hits and three runs -- one earned -- in six innings.
Francisco Rodriguez pitched a perfect ninth for his AL-leading 20th save. The Angels have won their last 112 games when leading after eight innings, the longest current streak in the majors.
